Strategies and Techniques (Buy
on Amazon.com) I could sum up this book in one sentence and that would be “the Bible of Options Trading”. Natenberg has published a book that is good for all levels of traders in which he starts at the very basics and builds in an easy-to-follow method from there. Anyone just starting in the world of options realizes that the concepts can be confusing, which is why the first quarter of this book is so good, as it has definitions and good real-life applications. He then progresses in the concepts and the first few times you may find them confusing. Reread the things you do not understand a few different times. Do not be discouraged. The concepts are not easy and very few people grasp them thoroughly the first time through, but as you look at them again and again they will start to sink in. If there is one book I would recommend you have in your options library this, would be the one. I believe that it offers the best combination of information for both the novice and advanced trader and can be referred to again and again as your trading progresses.
Options as a Strategic Investment (Buy
on Amazon.com) An absolute groundbreaking book when first published; this is the book the options market was weaned on. McMillan put out the first widely followed publication on the subject of options. This book was the first book that most traders over the age of 35 ever read on options and the updated versions are still very good. I would still consider this a book that people would want to read in order to further their understanding of the options market. I would also recommend that people who purchase this book also get the Study Guide that goes along with it as it will help to reinforce many of the concepts that you are being exposed to. As with the Natenberg book, I believe the basic definitions and examples are good and very helpful. I would recommend this book as a very good options book for the average trader. As with any subject, it is probably a good idea to have the ground breaking book on options. I like the Study Guide that comes with the recent editions of the book as I do feel it will help people in their understanding of many of the concepts.
